Ice Machine Not Making Ice?
Troubleshooting tips for Memphis restaurants, hotels, and bars.
Memphis Troubleshooting Guide
Ice machines are sensitive. Try these simple maintenance checks before calling for service.
1 Run a Cleaning Cycle
The #1 cause of failure in Memphis. Our hard water causes lime scale buildup that confuses the thickness sensors.
The Fix: Toggle the switch to "Clean" (or "Wash"). Follow the instructions on the inside panel to add nickel-safe cleaner. This often resets the machine.
2 Check the Water Filter
If water flow is too slow, the machine will time out and shut down.
The Fix: When was the last time you changed your external water filter? If needed, bypass it temporarily to see if the machine starts making ice again. If so, replace the filter immediately.
3 Check the Air Filter
Air-cooled ice machines need to breathe. If the filter is clogged with grease or dust, it overheats and shuts off.
The Fix: Slide out the air filter (usually on the side or front). Wash it with warm soapy water, dry it, and reinstall it.
If you've cleaned it and it's still not working, you likely have:
- Refrigerant leak
- Failed compressor
- Bad harvesting valve
- Broken water pump
